Dreamland for the Powerful

Before I came to the United States I knew this country as the country were dreams came true. Yet the more time I live here the more I see dreams disappear. The government says that you have right but yet when it comes down to a decision they have the final say. It does not matter whom the people vote for, the government will choose who they want to choose. This country is a dream country for those with money and power. If you have money then you have the power to change things in your favor. The president of the United States has just been accused of sexual misconduct with the testimony of six victims and yet their cases are not being taken seriously, why you ask well because he is being supported and protected by people who are very powerful and very rich. This is not the first time that the President has been put on the spot for sexual misconduct. Yet he has never been investigated. This country is his dreamland because he knows that his money and the powerful friendships that he has will keep him protected. Yes, this is a dreamland if you have money and power on your side. You have right only if you have the money to protect them.

Blog 6 Voting Day Should Be A Holiday

I agree with Jocelyn Hernandez that there are many people who do not vote because they have to work. Many people get out of work late or once they get out of work they are too tired to go make a line and just want to go home and rest. Even though I agree with you on making voting day a holiday I am afraid that many businesses will not recognize that day. Many businesses are open during Thanksgiving even though is an important holiday for families to be together. Maybe it could become part of employees’ rights to get a day to vote. I believe that the number of voters would definitely increase.

DACA Should Not be repealed.

President Trump repealed DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

DACA is American immigration policy that allowed some individuals who entered the country as minors and had either entered or remained in the country illegally, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for a work permit. Not every person that comes to the United States is bad there are bad people from everywhere. Many people, me being one of them came into this country with a dream of having a good education and a better life. Having DACA has given me many job opportunities and just like others I also pay my taxes. I know that I haven’t hurt the country or anyone else since I have been here just like many of the other people who have DACA. I came here when I was very small, if I had to go back to my country it would be very difficult. I have lived here most of my life if I went back I wouldn’t even know where to start. We cannot collect welfare and we are paying taxes and they also charge us to renew our permit every year. All of the money we spend on our permits and the money we pay in taxes is helping the country and its citizens. We are paying for many citizens welfare.

Blog 4 Just How Harmful Donald Trump’s Wall Would Be?

On October 19, 2017, Times posted an article titled Please Understand Just How Harmful Donald Trump’s Wall Would Be. Teresa Puente has an MFA degree in Creative Writing from Columbia College Chicago and a bachelor’s degree with a double major in journalism and political science from Indiana University-Bloomington. I believe her education and the company she works for gives her argument about the wall hurting the country a lot credibility. I think her audiences are all the immigrants who will be affected by this decision and also the American people because their taxes will be used to pay for the wall. This wall will affect the whole country economically. It will also create conflict with Mexico because Donald Trump wants Mexico to pay for it. Teresa drove the 2000 miles wall and talked to the people who lived around it and she used it as evidence on her paper. I agree with all of her argument I am a strong supporter of not building a wall because it will only cause conflict and economic instability.

Blog 3 John Lewis boycotting Civil Rights Event

On December 8,2017, Media Matters posted videos titled

pro-Trump contributor criticizes civil rights icon John Lewis for not educating Trump about civil rights

Robert Lewis is an American politician and is a prominent civil rights leader. He is the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district, serving since 1987, and is the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation. Lewis wants to skip the Civil Rights Museum opening because Donald Trump will be present and I completely agree with him. I believe that Donald Trump’s has been very clear on his stance about racism. He called all Mexicans rapist and killers in national TV. He has no compassion or willingness to learn. He who is the most powerful man in this country surely has the ability and resources to inform himself about the history of America. He has wanted to ban people from coming into the USA just because of their profile. He believes that all foreigners coming into the country are terrorist and shouldn’t be allowed to live here. I agree with John Lewis decision because I believe that Donald Trump's actions have shown that he is racist. He doesn’t want to learn from anyone if not he should have learned a little from the history classes that he had to take in school.

Blog 2

On Thursday, December 7, 2017, the New York Times published an article titled
Al Franken to Resign From Senate Amid Harassment AllegationsSenator Al Franken of Minnesota announced on Thursday that he would resign. Six women accused Al Franken of sexual harassment. He denied the allegations of groping and improper advances. When he gave his not so apologetic speech he called out president Trump and Moore. This article is important because it shows how unfair it is for Donald Trump to be our president. Many others are paying for their horrible behavior and yet like Al Franken said we have someone who openly spoke about sexual harassment representing the country. Actions speak louder than words and the country can say equal rights for all, but people in power have more rights.
